WANGARATTA Little Athletics successfully launched the 2023/24 season with freshly trained coaches and officials, ready to support the new crop of junior athletes.
The centre used the first four weeks to show parents what is involved in being a Little Athletics helper.
Wangaratta Little Aths secretary Alicia Canning said it has been a crazy four weeks.
“We have been surprised by the talent our junior athletes have demonstrated, and the enthusiasm of the parent helpers,” she said.
“We couldn’t function without parents volunteering each week.
“Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents are able to get up close to the action and be involved in the children’s sporting journey.”
Little Athletics teaches foundation skills of run, jump and throw which are carried across a variety of other sports as a child grows.
Wangaratta Little Athletics is celebrating community as their theme over the season.
“The motto of Little Athletics is ‘fun, fitness and family’", Canning said.
“We would like the Wangaratta community to have fun under the lights on a Friday night, meeting new athletes and parents while we support our children to become the best version of themselves.”
Friday, November 3 is the centre’s third round of competition, and the whole group is excited to be out competing under lights.
A number of Wangaratta Little Athletes competed in the School Sports Victoria Regional competitions on Wednesday and have progressed through to State Competition which will be held in Melbourne on Wednesday, November 1.
