At home with Hannah and Matt

IN every country football club there are familial and romantic relationships formed, but rarely do those connections result in shared success. For Wangaratta's Hannah Grady and Matt Kelly they have each already achieved the ultimate prize with Matt part of the Magpies 2017 premiership side and Hannah part of the all–conquering A grade netball team going for its third successive flag. They were kind enough to share their shared history on the eve of Sunday's Ovens and Murray Grand Finals with both facing Yarrawonga teams for premiership glory. How long have you two been together? We have been together around six years. Where did you meet? We met at the Wangaratta Football Netball Club. How and when did each of you start with the Magpies. Matt: I started in 2004 playing thirds. When I was playing junior league for Imperials and travelling down from Bright, I met a few boys that wanted me to go try out for Maggies the following year. Hannah: I started in 2012 playing C grade. I was encouraged to come to the club by Lou Byrne. How do you each prepare before the game? We have pretty relaxed Friday night, pasta and garlic bread for dinner and generally the football on TV. Game day food usually involves a wrap or sandwich from APCO. How will you spend Saturday? A sleep in, nice home cooked brekky and a walk (if weather permits), followed by the AFL grand final on the couch. What are you each like after the game when you get home? Matt: Sore, exhausted, but that's only if I can't find a function to attend. Hannah: Usually pretty stiff and sore, but sometimes that's more from the dance floor. Any superstitions? Matt: Game day jocks and socks are always the same and generally I tend to wear the same footy jumper. What do you think are your partner's greatest sporting strength? Matt: We generally play at the same time, so I don't get to watch but I would say her determination and relaxed attitude. Hannah: I often only catch the back end of games, but I would say his determination and will to win. What are you each looking forward to the most this Sunday? Matt: After no finals series for two years, it's exciting to be playing on the big stage again. Hannah: Getting the opportunity to play another game with the girls.
