KEEP SAFE: Police will be out in force over the Australia Day long weekend for Operation Amity, as the local area mourns two tragic deaths on local roads within a week.

POLICE are hoping to buck a tragic start to the year on local roads as Operation Amity comes into effect for the Australia Day long weekend.

A 21-year-old not from the local area died following a crash in Glenrowan in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
