Family wants justice for Kath

VICTORIA Police have renewed calls for information about the disappearance and likely murder of Kath Bergamin, who was last seen in Wangaratta 22 years ago to the day.

Detective Inspector Dave Dunstan, OIC of the Missing Persons Squad, said while 22 years have now passed, he acknowledge that Kath’s family and loved ones are still desperate for answers about her disappearance and who was responsible.

"Our thoughts are with them on this anniversary and no doubt it will be a difficult day for them," he said.

"While over two decades have passed, police have not given up hope of finding Kath and determining who is responsible for her death.

"The investigation by the Missing Persons Squad remains ongoing.

"We remain committed to solving this case and providing some comfort and closure to Kath’s loved ones and the local community."

Kath was last seen on the night of Sunday, August 18, 2002 at the Brien Crescent, Wangaratta home that she shared with a friend.

Detectives believe the 37-year-old mother of three who was estranged from her husband met with foul play, however, her body has never been found.

A coronial inquest in 2008 found Ms Bergamin had been "forced to leave" her home and "unlawfully killed", but concluded there was "insufficient evidence" to establish the person or persons responsible.

In September 2020, investigators interviewed five people in connection with her disappearance, however, all were released pending further enquiries.
