ROBERTA Elizabeth (Bobbie) Ferguson was born in Wangaratta in 1927, the eldest daughter of Robert and Marjorie Ferguson of Bowmans Forest.
Her siblings were Joseph (Joe) (deceased) and sister Lorraine (Peggy).
Bobbie attended the local school at Murmungee for a few years and after her father passed away, she attended St Michael's Ladies College in Melbourne, with her brother and sister also attending boarding school in Melbourne.
After finishing school, she and her siblings returned home to help their mother on the family farm.
Bobbie later accepted a clerk's position at the Bowmans Railway Station and would ride her bike from home over to the station.
Her role was to record with pen and paper all the goods that were loaded and unloaded at the station.
Goods would range from kegs of beer for local hotels, tobacco, wool, fertiliser, grain, mail, food, and general merchandise supplies for the local stores and landholders in the Bowmans/Whorouly area.
Bobbie was an active member of the Whorouly Red Cross where she was a long–standing member of 40 plus years, holding the positions of both secretary and treasurer.
She was also a member of other local groups at Bowmans and Whorouly.
Bobbie was a member of the Whorouly St John's congregation for many years and would attend church every Sunday.
Later in life she resided at Barwidgee Lodge, Myrtleford.
She enjoyed a joke, had a sense of humour and a quick wit – all characteristics that were typical Bobbie.
Bobbie lived and loved her life on the land, loved her family and was loved by all her family and friends.
Bobbie passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 aged 95 years.
