WANGARATTA has recorded one new positive COVID case amid the many hundreds of local residents tested at the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Thursday.
This brings the total number of active cases in the current outbreak within the Rural City of Wangaratta to 24.
Albury Wodonga Health said the new Wangaratta case was among 14 new COVID-19 cases reported within the Albury Wodonga Local Public Health Unit catchment within the past 24 hours to 8.30am Friday.
These include 12 new cases in Wodonga and 1 in Indigo Shire.
Albury Wodonga Health said in terms of acquisition, there is strong evidence of community transmission in both Wangaratta and Albury/Wodonga.
The health authority said the new cases in Wodonga are generally related to social settings in Albury.
Albury Wodonga Health is reminding people to limit travel and movement wherever possible.
The health authority said all COVID positive cases are isolating in line with Public Health orders and contact tracing is continuing.
Any Tier 1 exposure sites identified as a result of contact tracing will be made available on health authority websites – in Victoria it’s at www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/case-alerts-public-exposure-sites
TESTING
Anyone identified as a close contact of any case, or anyone who is a household contact of someone with COVID-19, will be contacted directly by the contact tracing team or given advice from health authorities around their situation.
People in these categories can leave home to be tested, but must not leave their car and must drive straight to and from the nearest testing facility.
Wangaratta’s COVID screening operations at the Wangaratta Showgrounds have been expanded to four lanes and the testing is operational from 8.30am to 4.30pm daily.
