Australian White Ibis – ‘bin chook’ an underappreciated icon

THIS week's article is about one of our most maligned and unappreciated birds, the Australian White Ibis.

In urban areas many Ibis scavenge by foraging at rubbish tips and in city parks.

Their plumage becomes soiled by refuse, and they are often referred to as 'tip turkeys' or 'bin chickens'.

However in many regional areas, Australian White Ibis may be called 'the farm...
