COVID testing numbers spike

WANGARATTA'S active COVID–19 cases have risen to 12 this week in the wake of a huge increase in testing with more than 400 through the clinic on Monday.

There was one new COVID–19 case this week, with 11 active cases currently in the rural city, according to Victorian Government LGA data.

A Northeast Health Wangaratta spokesperson said there has been a spike in testing over the Christmas holiday period.

"Numbers have been over 400 some days, which is more than double the average," the spokesperson said.

"Wait times have been between one and a half to two hours.

"This week we had 440 come through on Monday, 420 on Tuesday and 220 on Wednesday."

From Tuesday, January 4 the vaccination clinic on Tone Road will be open as normal from 8.30am–4pm from Monday to Friday.

The Wangaratta screening clinic is open this weekend from 7.30–11am on both Saturday and Sunday.
