VICTORIA police have confirmed human remains found near Dargo last November were those of missing Wonnangatta campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.
An extensive search late last year ultimately located the remains on November 30, with forensic testing undertaken by the coroner today confirming they were those of Mr Hill and Ms Clay.
A 55-year-old Caroline Springs man was charged with two counts of murder and denied bail at Sale Magistrates Court in November, and is set to return to the court on May 31.
The pair were last heard from on March 20, 2020, when Mr Hill, an experienced camper and outdoorsman, announced via high–frequency radio he would be camping in the Wonnangatta Valley with Ms Clay.
The pair's campsite was found burned out on March 21 by fellow campers, while Mr Hill's Landcruiser was seen to have also suffered significant fire damage.
