THE pilot of a light aircraft declared missing over the Tallangatta Valley yesterday afternoon has been found deceased at a crash site in Victoria's high country.
An extensive search coordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) commenced in the region shortly after the aircraft was reported overdue around 2pm yesterday, with its last contact made between Mount Beauty and Corryong.
Around 10am this morning, a Victoria Police helicopter located a crash site 30km east of Tallangatta, with crews confirming the aircraft's pilot and sole occupant was found deceased at the scene.
"AMSA acknowledge this is a difficult time for family and friends of the pilot and would like to thank all those who assisted with the search," an AMSA spokesperson said.
No details of the air craft's journey were made available.
