AS firefighters prepare for the region’s upcoming bushfire season, restrictions due to the pandemic have been making it difficult for training to take place compared to previous years.

The severity of this year’s fire season is predicted to be far less than last year, as winter rains and a wetter than normal spring is expected, according to the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre.

The risk of campaign bushfires throughout Victoria’s east has also reduced.
