Federal Government urged to invest in social housing

A WANGARATTA support service is urging the Federal Government to invest in social housing alongside the Victorian Government, to address a critical need in the local community.

BeyondHousing has called for federal MPs to sign a pledge to build more social housing to create jobs and help end homelessness, as agencies seek to raise the desperate plight during Homelessness Week.

BeyondHousing chief executive officer, Celia Adams, said the latest report from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute showed there was a shortfall in safe, uncrowded and affordable housing in the federal electorate of Indi with about 2700 social housing homes needed right now to put a roof over the heads of people experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis.
