Flood overlay removal is a concern for some

Residents query how known flood area now considered safe for homes

AT least two local residents are concerned about a Wangaratta council planning amendment (C81) currently on exhibition that could remove large amounts of flood overlays on the south side of the city if it is passed.

Jordan’s Lane resident for 30 years Vicki Bechaz said there have been a number of historical flooding events, including the 1993 flood and as recent as 2016 but the historical overlays have virtually disappeared on the new flood overlay planning map attached to the amendment.

Vicki and Jodie Butler, whose elderly father also lives in Jordan’s Lane, have taken their concerns about the removal of the historic overlay to council but are not satisfied with the answers they have been given.
