More police support for victims of sexual violence

WANGARATTA’S Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are hoping more victims of sexual offences will come forward as resources are increased.

Victoria Police released an updated translated resource to help culturally and linguistically diverse communities better understand how to report a sexual offence to police, which is now available in 20 languages.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Mary-Jayne Kane of Wangaratta SOCIT, who has 10 years’ experience in the area, said it can be extremely difficult for victims to come forward.
