THE sudden announcement last weekend by the State Government to drop planned easing of COVID-19 restrictions on Monday was a bitter blow for the hospitality industry.

For those who had managed to survive the months of lockdown the possibility to cater for crowds of up to 50 people with individual groups of up to 20 was a beacon of hope that life was on the road back to normality.

Wangaratta’s Town ‘N’ Country Tavern had already received bookings for larger gatherings and with its four separate rooms its capacity had risen to 160 people, still well down on its licence limit of 620, but it was a start.
