Family violence rise hits a five year high

RECENT data from the Crime Statistics Agency has shown family violence incidents in Wangaratta were at their highest level since 2015 rising by 24 per cent for the year ending March 2020.

The data recorded 547 family incidents for 2020 compared to 441 last year, with breaches of family violence orders the highest offence category recorded.

Majority of offences took place in residential homes with women the most affected group aged 35-44.
