Concern over end of free childcare

Council estimates around $110,000 cost to its budget

LOCAL families and council are bracing for the impact of the scrapping of free childcare from July 12 and end of JobKeeper payments to the sector from July 28.

Rural City of Wangaratta director of community wellbeing, Jaime Chubb, said the Federal Government’s imminent changes to childcare support would have a number of impacts on local families and on council’s budgeting.

“For council, the free childcare has had a negative impact on our budget as the cost of providing free childcare has been partially borne by council,” Ms Chubb said.
