Schools turn down early cash offer

WANGARATTA’S independent and Catholic schools will not take up an early receipt of Federal Government funding which would potentially have seen them re-open to more students earlier than their state school counterparts.

The Federal Government this week offered to bring forward funding which independent and religious schools usually receive in July, if they started delivering face-to-face learning to 50 per cent of their students by the end of May; the money would be paid in two instalments, in May and June.

However, the State Government is continuing to encourage Victorian students to learn from home if possible, with plans to continue for the remainder of term two unless the state of emergency is lifted on May 11.
