THERE is potential for a manufacturing-led recovery from financial woes caused by COVID-19, and regional areas are well-placed to benefit, according to Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor Dean Rees.

“We rely so much on imports in Australia, and a large percentage of our imports are from China,” Cr Rees told the Wangaratta Chronicle yesterday.

“(The COVID-19 pandemic) might make people think, well, we save a bit of money, but the quality of Australian products is so good, could we bring more manufacturing back to Australia?
