Recent rain has sown seeds of optimistic start for crop farmers

WELCOME recent rainfall in the Wangaratta district has provided one the best autumn breaks for years for local crop farmers.

At a time when the COVID-19 crisis is hurting many businesses, recent activity of agricultural tractors and related machinery moving around paddocks is raising spirits among the local rural sector as an earlier than usual sowing window opens.

Agronomist Darren McCormick, who works at Wangaratta Landmark NorMac, said “mud is money” and  whether talking pasture production or cropping, the early rain has set primary producers up for a great year.
