Family violence among number of areas to increase

THE latest crime statistics have shown a steady increase across criminal incidents and family violence in Wangaratta, which could mean more reports being made to police.

According to the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) criminal incidents rose by 1.6 per cent as well as total offences by 5.7 per cent, with family incidents showing the highest increase at 13.5 per cent for the year ending December 2019 in Wangaratta.

Wangaratta Local Area Commander Inspector Luke Kirton said while the increase may not be ideal, it showed more victims are coming forward.
