Council to pursue future AFL games, and funding to improve sporting precinct

THE success of yesterday’s blockbuster AFL pres-season clash between heavyweights Richmond and Collingwood has only strengthened council’s resolve to secure more games into the future.

An official crowd of 7164 fans soaked up the 30 plus degree heat of autumn’s first day as they watched the Magpies claim a hard fought 40 point win over the Tigers on the immaculate Norm Minns Oval at the Wangaratta Showgrounds.

Clubs’ players, officials and spectators were full of praise for the facilities, and the event, with Richmond acting skipper Dylan Grimes saying the ground surface was “outstanding”.
