Residential development reaches $66m, but commercial growth on council’s agenda

RESIDENTIAL development in Wangaratta has been on a steady increase over the last three years with building permits issued in 2019 valued at more than $66 million.

It was a $10m rise on 2018 figures and up $14m on 2017, but according to Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees, it’s only the tip of the iceberg with new land rezoning expected to unlock a residential boom in the city.

With residential growth there needs to be more jobs to support it and Cr Rees said council has negotiations in the pipeline that if they mature will provide jobs locally.
