Future of YMCA programs in Wangaratta unclear after October 31 D-Day

END OF AN ERA: Council is scheduled to take over the managment of the Wangaratta Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre from the YMCA on Novemer 1.

IT might not be the end of YMCA programs in Wangaratta but the ball firmly sits in council’s court as to whether the iconic organisation will have a future in the rural city.

The rural city announced last December that it will be taking over management of the council-owned Wangaratta Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre (WISAC), a popular facility that has been run by the YMCA for the last 17 years.

Last year more than 380,000 visits were made to WISAC, however, with the non-renewal of the YMCA’s contract, fundraising events and support programs such as ‘Dancing with the Mastars’ and ‘YMCA Evolve’ could become a thing of the past.
