A WOMAN who feared for her safety when a freight train derailed on Wednesday afternoon at Barnawartha has spoken for the first time about the incident.

Rosalee O’Neil was driving northbound on the Hume Freeway next to the train when the incident occurred at about 5.40pm and was one of the first to call triple zero.

“There was a massive, big bang and I looked across and the carriages were all derailing to the point where I thought it was going to come onto the Hume Freeway,” she said.
