But firefighter’s tragic death near Omeo highlights ongoing danger remains

AFTERMATH: Local businesses will be able to get access to some relief following the announcement of a $64 million package for State of Disaster listed areas.

THE death of a Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) firefighter on Saturday on the fireground near Omeo highlighted the bushfire danger period is far from over.

Bill Slade, a FFMVic firefighter and Parks Victoria employee from South Gippsland with 40 years’ service, died after being struck by a tree near Anglers Rest.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.
