Hundreds seeking help at emergency relief centres

HUNDREDS of people were continuing to register for assistance yesterday afternoon at the Wangaratta Performing Arts and Convention Centre Emergency Relief Centre.

The centre reopened at 4pm on Wednesday after being temporarily relocated to the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Tuesday.

Queues of people were waiting to register as an evacuee with Red Cross or for financial assistance with the Department of Health and Human Services as bushfires continued to rage in the King Valley and Alpine areas.
