FIRE authorities say they are as prepared as possible for the expected challenging conditions that are expected across various fire fronts in North East Victoria today.
Overnight winds were milder than forecast, but authorities are still bracing for the predicted high temperatures of 40 plus degrees, coupled with winds that are anticipated to make today one of extreme danger.
At 10.10am this morning Vic Emergency re-iterated it’s strong recommendation for people to Evacuate Now if they are located in – Abbeyard, Bennies, Cheshunt, Cheshunt South, Dandongadale, Edi, Edi Upper, King Valley, Rose River, Whitfield, Whitlands and surrounding areas.
It said there are multiple bushfires burning in the Abbeyard area that are not yet under control.
Victoria Police are supporting evacuations in the area. However, you cannot rely on emergency services to evacuate you.
Fire weather today (Saturday 4 January) is predicted to be extreme creating fire storm conditions which may not be survivable.
Duty officer for CFA district 23, Trevor Logan, spoke to the Wangaratta Chronicle at 10am this morning to update conditions.
