Wangaratta among state’s high boozers

More than one in five people over age of 14 drink at risky level

THE North East has been revealed to be among the booziest regions in the state. Wangaratta ranked high with the top boozers in the region at 21.1 per cent of people aged over 14 drinking at risky levels, according to a report from Mitchell Institute.

Towong Shire has taken the top spot in Victoria at 27.6 per cent, along with Alpine Shire at 24.9 per cent and Indigo Shire at 22.9 per cent.

The Greater Dandenong region came in at 6.5 per cent being the lowest in the state, along with Brimbank at 8.6 per cent and Hume at 9.8 per cent.
