Land on offer to victims

Council starts register to help fire-affected farmers and livestock.

A CALLOUT to Wangaratta district landowners to offer free livestock agistment to fire and drought affected farmers in NSW and Queensland will begin today.

The Rural City of Wangaratta has started a register of those willing to offer secure land for livestock including cattle, sheep and horses to alleviate the dire situation interstate.

City mayor Dean Rees said Wangaratta will be the first in Australia to start the initiative and it will involve the taking of details of those who have land available to assist.
