WANGARATTA’S reputation as a sporting city is set to be further enhanced this weekend, as the Showgrounds precinct plays host to Sunday’s 2019 Ovens and Murray grand finals.

Still basking in the glow of Wangaratta City Football Club’s double success in the Albury Wodonga Football Association finals last Sunday, the rural city is preparing to showcase not only its sporting prowess, but its ability to handle major events, backing up its performance as last year’s O&M grand final host.

Already proven as a quality venue for AFL pre-season matches with four held since 2013, the Showgrounds attracted a crowd of about 7000 people last year, after Wangaratta reclaimed the hosting rights from Lavington for the first time in almost a quarter of a century.
