THE Tristar medical clinic in Wangaratta will not operate after this month unless a qualified GP is secured to supervise the practice.

Tristar managing director Anne Gardner told the Wangaratta Chronicle that its current GP is retiring at the end of this month and they have been unable to recruit an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) approved supervising doctor.

The issue regarding the need for a supervising GP is part of an Australia wide doctors’ shortage in rural and regional areas, and Ms Gardner says “it is unlikely” they will be successful with finding a replacement in “the foreseeable future”.
