    A RECORD year of investment in community infrastructure is set to be backed up by the Rural City of Wangaratta.

    The 2018/19 capital works spend of $32.6m was the highest in council’s history and will be followed by some $39.7m of works this financial year.

    Some $7.6m of that $39.7m is coming from government grants, lightening the load on ratepayers.Major projects like the $16.88m aquatics project and $7.4m Cruse Street extension headline the works program.

    Council’s manager infrastructure planning and delivery, Marcus Goonan, said there was a strong spread of smaller projects that also contributed to the high investment.
