• Four trains, maybe seven

    THE State Government has confirmed that four new full-set trains will be ordered on July 1 for the North East line and the number could reach seven if the $235 million track upgrade meets the committed Class 2 standard.

    A Class 2 standard track, which the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has committed to achieving, will effectively allow VLocity trains to travel at 160kph instead of a 130kph maximum, theoretically allowing more daily services to operate.

    When the Class 2 standard is achieved the State Government confirmed that “up to seven” new VLocity rolling stock could be provided to the North East line out of the 18 that will be ordered alongside Ballarat and Geelong.
