IT was an especially crisp winter morning, and central Wangaratta was buzzing around him in mid-morning activity yesterday, but for D-Day veteran Len Maidment, it mattered little.

The 95 year old’s thoughts were in a different place and time, as he laid a bouquet of dark red gerberas and offered a lone salute at the Wangaratta Cenotaph, to remember the 75th anniversary of the allied landing at Normandy on June 6, 1944.

The anniversary was remembered by world leaders and people across the world yesterday, and for Len, it was important to have his own reflection.
