• Captain hopeful all will benefit

    WANGARATTA South Fire Brigade captain Garry Nash is hopeful the State Government’s bid to legislate a new organisation, Fire Rescue Victoria, will have a positive outcome for all involved.

    Career firefighters and their voluntary team members in integrated Country Fire Authority (CFA) stations such as Wangaratta could be split after the State Government introduced The Firefighters’ Presumptive Rights Compensation and Fire Services Legislation Amendment (Reform) Bill, which was expected to be passed by the Victorian Lower House yesterday.

    The bill aims to merge the MFB and career CFA staff from the state’s 38 integrated CFA stations to create Fire Rescue Victoria, staffed only by career firefighters and leaving the CFA to become a volunteer-only body.
