Dry winter ahead, but preparation available

LOCAL farmers are bracing themselves for a dryer than usual winter forecast off the back of a dry autumn and summer this year.

Over the six months of summer and autumn, Wangaratta saw just 248.8mm of rain and, despite the recent heavy rainfall; farmers have had to make some tough decisions with many destocking their farms.

The cold weather will be the biggest problem this winter, according to Corcoran and Parker stock agent Kevin Sanderson, who gave an overview on recent and future cattle prices.
