Another option: station overpass could bury underpass

OVERPASS OR UNDERPASS: THE ARTC yesterday released new imagery (above) of what an overpass might look like, compared to the earlier released underpass option.

AN underpass that could potentially replace two existing overpasses at Wangaratta Train Station is not a done deal with Inland Rail releasing ‘fly-through’ visuals of single ‘overpass’ option this week.

To accommodate the Inland Rail – a 1700km Melbourne to Brisbane double-stack freight service – several bridges and crossovers need to be rebuilt along the line.

Community feedback from two sessions held by an the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) in March indicated that an underpass (tunnel) was the preferred option, but this week’s visual release of a 7.1-metre high overpass bridge, complete with lifts and disability access, the latest alternative could become a community favourite.
