Electorate set to stay in Independent hands, and cash in on PM promises

INDI looks set to stay an ‘Independent’ federal electorate with Cathy McGowan’s anointed successor, Helen Haines, in the ‘orange’ boxed seat to officially claim a decisive victory in Saturday’s federal election.

While Liberal candidate Steve Martin had communicated to Dr Haines that he was awaiting postal votes to be counted before conceding defeat, the rest of the nation was yesterday acknowleding Indi had again “bucked the trend” and rejected representation from a major party.

As of yesterday the Australian Electoral Commission had counted 78.79 per cent of the votes in Indi.
