Wangaratta farmers slugged over rural rate increases


RURAL property owners in the Wangaratta municipality could be facing increases in their rates more than four times higher than the so called 2.5 per cent rate cap this financial year.

While the overall rate increase for the rural city comes in at 2.5 per cent, property owners in Rural 2, Rural 1 and Vacant Rural Residential (generally smaller lifestyle blocks) face a collective increase of 5.01 per cent, 7.59 per cent and 11.11 per cent respectively.

The increases are for the combined total for each type or class of land meaning individual property owners could face lower or even higher increases.
