Neil Whyte celebrates 100 years as a local

FROM riding horses to school at six years old, to buying a dozen eggs for less than five cents, Neil Whyte reflected on the memories that make up the century of his life, eagerly waiting to celebrate his 100th birthday on Sunday, February 17.

While living with his wife, Pat, at their beautifully-kept Vernon Road property, gardening and playing pool with friends have remained Neil’s favourite ways to fill his time.

Neil was a local from birth, born in his parents Greta South home on February 17, 1919, located on a farm “20 miles from Benalla and 20 miles from Wangaratta”.“We only had a horse and buggy to get around in those days,” Neil told the Wangaratta Chronicle.
