Driver fined $1000 over 2017 Ovens River grocery spill

THE Queensland truck driver who crashed his b-double into the Ovens River in December 2017, spilling two trailers of groceries into the water was fined $1000 when he faced Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The truck driver faced court for charges relating to driving while impaired by fatigue, failure to have proper control, contravene maximum work hours and contravene minimum rest requirement.

The incident led to his b-double truck veering off the right-hand side of the Hume Freeway in the Oxley Flats area, mounting the concrete safety barriers and falling into the Ovens River.
