Community consciousness of how to beat heat is helping save lives

AN increase in home health care during heatwaves for the elderly and other vulnerable people is decreasing the risk of severe heat related illnesses and even death.

Heat health alerts have been issued for today and tomorrow by the Department of Health and it is forecast above the alert threshold for Friday and Saturday.

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) reports no increases in heat related presentations to the emergency department this summer despite a four-day heatwave last week and a string of 40-degree Celsius days forecast this week.
