Drier year costs us more

Household water consumption was up across the region

HOUSEHOLD water use was on the rise during 2018 but overall North East residents had less water consumption on average compared to people’s habits before the millennium drought.

Wangaratta water use was up 241 megalitres on the 2017 figure and all other towns in the region including Oxley, Whitfield, Bright, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, Beechworth and Wahgunyah used more water last year, except Moyhu that remained the same.

The increases are largely due to the hot and dry 2018 but the region’s water authority has praised customers for their good habits with the precious resource.
