    THE young families of the city’s newly elected mayor and deputy are the inspiration of their desire to boost Wangaratta’s economy, grow its population by 10,000, and make it a place that ‘feels like home’.

    Cr Dean Rees was elected mayor on Monday night for the next 12 months in a 4-3 vote, supported by councillors Harry Bussell, Mark Currie and Ashlee Fitzpatrick, edging out Cr Harvey Benton who had backing of Cr Dave Fuller and outgoing mayor Ken Clarke.

    In accepting the top job, Cr Rees thanked his wife Marni and children Lexi and Oliver for their support and allowing him the time to “devote this passion to the role”.
