CFA to respond to heart attack emergencies

WANGARATTA firefighters are likely to be first on scene during triple zero (000) callouts to heart attack victims under a new emergency response initiative now in force.

CFA emergency medical responders (EMRs) will attend incidents of cardiac arrest potentially providing lifesaving treatment in waiting or in support of Ambulance Victoria (AV) paramedics.

Reports indicate that heart attack victims are getting younger due to lifestyle choices and Wangaratta and Wodonga paramedics respond to up to 70 incidents per annum.
