State’s top cop begins long walk to our city, for mental health

Commissioner Ashton and Mr Gatt set off on Monday to raise support and funds for police mental health.

BROADENING AWARENESS: Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton (pictured, centre) will walk from Mallacoota to Wangaratta to raise support for former police officers experiencing mental illness as part of the Head to Head walk.

VICTORIA Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton and The Police Association of Victoria (TPAV) secretary Wayne Gatt have started their journey to Wangaratta for an important cause.

Commissioner Ashton and Mr Gatt set off on Monday from Mallacoota and Mildura respectively as part of the inaugural Head to Head walk, which aims to raise support and funds for police mental health.

The pair will cover a combined 1000 kilometres and meet in Wangaratta on October 23, joined by a range of Victoria Police, community and TPAV co-walkers.
