People’s place set to become 24/7 facility

INCREASING competition from rival gymnasiums has led to the council-owned Wangaratta Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre moving to a 24 hour operation.

Rural City of Wangaratta councillors this week voted in favour of allocating $50,000 from the profit share account with the YMCA to undertake upgrades to allow all hours’ access to the group fitness rooms, changing rooms and gym, despite opposition from Cr Mark Currie.

Cr Currie asked for the motion to be deferred until the next meeting to allow more time for councillors to study the report, however, it failed to gain any support.
