ALMOST a quarter of a century since it last hosted the Ovens and Murray Football League grand final, Wangaratta is ready to step into the spotlight again on Sunday.

A six week oval preparation program, meticulous groundwork by council and local football clubs, a fairytale combination of competing teams, and ideal weather have all roads leading to Wangaratta as it takes on hosting duties for the league’s biggest day.

Wangaratta Magpies will host what president Tony Goodison called a “historic event”, and have their senior football and A and B grade netball teams in the running for premierships, while Wangaratta Rovers will be represented on the day by their thirds side.
