    YOUNG PATRIOTS: Manha and Malia Khan enjoyed celebrating Australia Day at Hamilton Park this year.

    PATRIOTIC locals will still be able to enjoy the traditional Australia Day festivities right across the rural city despite early chatter council could scrap funding to over a dozen rural town events.

    During a consultation period in forming the Events and Attractions Strategy 2018-2023, a suggestion to reduce council backing to just four of the 17 community gatherings struck a nerve among townspeople, causing “angst”.

    Council contributes $400 to each of the community Australia Day events to pay for catering and equipment to let the towns’ national day of pride run smoothly, and this support will remain.
